EVA Support Classes
At Exceptional Village Academy, students are not expected to figure things out alone.
Our Support Classes strengthen skills, build confidence, and provide structured guidance in a live Zoom environment. Each class serves a distinct purpose while working together to support student growth.
Language Arts Support
Language Arts Support begins with understanding where a student is right now. We use each student’s IXL diagnostic results to identify which skills need strengthening.
Students work on the exact areas their diagnostic highlights. Instead of reviewing everything, we focus on what each student truly needs, so time is used wisely and progress feels steady and real.
In this class, students:
-
Strengthen reading comprehension
-
Improve grammar and sentence structure
-
Build vocabulary in context
-
Develop clear, organized writing
Growth is tracked through strand improvement and writing development over time. The goal is steady progress and growing confidence.
Math Support
Math Support is guided by each student’s IXL diagnostic results, which show the specific math concepts that need attention.
Students focus on the areas that need reinforcement, whether in algebra, geometry, number sense, or financial math. We slow the thinking down in a healthy way so students understand the why behind the math, not just the steps.
In this class, students:
-
Strengthen foundational skills
-
Practice problem solving strategies
-
Reinforce current coursework
-
Build deeper conceptual understanding
Growth is monitored through strand progress and increasing independence in solving problems. The focus is clarity, confidence, and consistent improvement.
Learning Lab
Learning Lab is a structured support class centered on reflection, accountability, and growth mindset.
This school supports students who may struggle with executive functioning, focus, or follow through. Learning Lab creates a space where those challenges can be discussed openly and without judgment.
Each week begins with a guided reflection prompt and class discussion about what happened during the week and what students are learning. After discussion, students write in detail about their own experiences, strengthening clarity, organization, and written communication skills.
Students also complete a Learning Log, a weekly record of the academic work they have completed. This reinforces accountability and helps students see clearly what they have accomplished each week, building awareness of their effort and consistency over time.
Study Hall
Study Hall is a supervised Zoom work period for students who need to know someone is right there when questions arise. Students use this time to work on missed or overdue assignments, complete current coursework, or stay on track with weekly expectations. The teacher is present to provide guidance, answer questions, and occasionally offer short tutoring support when needed.
Study Hall provides structure, reassurance, and real-time assistance so students can move forward instead of feeling stuck.
